Sue Jelley, a Surrey based artist, has always been inspired by the places and people she has met on her travels. The Jazz clubs of London, Paris and New Orleans have provided the characters she likes to depict; Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Le Petit Journal, Paris and Ronnie Scott’s in London. The Marinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg, Flamenco in Madrid and Córdoba and The Royal Ballet, London are also places she has been privileged to visit. Sue likes to paint the ‘essence’ of her subjects; the passion of their work is of importance to her.
As a Londoner, she never tires of visiting one of her favourite Cities, especially as the buildings and inhabitants are for ever changing, and all this is part of the journey that excites her as a painter; she is interested in getting to the soul of her subject be it animate or otherwise.
Sue was President of the Society of Women Artists 2012 - 2017 and remains a Director. She is also Chairman of The Painter Stainers Fine Art Society.
