Sue Studied under James Hockey of the West Surrey College of Art from 1984 - 1987. She then went on to study and work in London and Paris with the Portraitist Ken Paine. Much of her work is inspired by the body language of her models, especially musicians and dancers and she likes to create an atmosphere of passion and movement in all her works.
Whilst in Paris Sue spent time working with The French Pastel Society where her love of portraiture and her work with the models inspired her latest series of works 'Face and Places of the World'. It was during her visits to 'Le Petit Journal' in Paris and the famous Jazz venues of New Orleans that spawned a lifelong love of Jazz and its many interesting characters.
Of particular interest Sue was commissioned by the BBC to produce paintings for the Radio 2 and 3 Jazz Awards where Quincy Jones was awarded a 'Lifetime Achievement Award' and he bought the portrait she painted of him for this very special occasion.
Sue is a Londoner and whenever the opportunity arises will take her inspiration from the City. Her series 'Rivers of the World' has provided material for many of her works: she loves the ebb and flow of these natural wonders that provide so much to the life-blood of the cities they serve. She finds all aspects of city life together with the interaction of work and leisure with the many inhabitants and visitors fascinating subjects.
Sue's paintings are in private and public collections in the UK and internationally.
Visitors are welcome to her private studio, by appointment. Sue also undertakes commissions.
