Surrey-based Sue Jelley is an artist who shows regularly at galleries in the UK, the US and France. After studying at The Bristol College of Commerce Sue then went on to study Fine Art with James Hockey at the West Surrey College of Art & Design. She worked in a private studio in Surrey for many years and also spent time in Paris working with the French Pastel Society. This together with her frequent visits to the US, Europe and South Africa has provided Sue with the inspiration for much of the work in her present collection.
Sue exhibits in the UK and internationally. Her exhibition credits include: The UK Pastel Society, The Society of Women Artists, The Menier Gallery, VivArtis, The French Pastel Society, Paris; The Llewellyn Alexander (Fine Paintings) Gallery, AAF Battersea, C2 Gallery, Gallery 54, Peter Hedley Gallery, and TheOld Pueblo Gallery, Tucson.
As a member of the Society of Women Artists Sue exhibits regularly at The Mall Galleries, London and with Fine Art UK Ledbury. British Modern Masters have invited Sue to be one of their artists to participate in an exciting new project to exhibit at prestigious venues on a national basis and she has recently been invited to become a member of the Societe des Pastellistes de France where she has been showing her work for the last 8 years in Paris and Limoges.
Sue has received several awards including the Solomon & Whitehead prize for allher work on show at the SWA; Winsor and Newton for Best Figurative; Dome UK Best Landscape; County Club, Surrey Best Portrait and Best Figurative; TSB Finance Best Portrait.
Kathi Rodgers of the Old Pueblo Gallery, Tucson, who represents Sue in the US regularly features her work in the important Art West Magazines. Sue visits Arizona frequently and is particularly interested in the preservation and culture of the desert.
Her interest in human interaction is witnessed by her café and dance scenes. Sue is particularly interested in portraiture and has worked with Ken Paine the portrait painter at Hampton Court. The body language of her models plays an important part in her work and she is currently involved in a series of studies including jazz and Life.
Sue was commissioned to produce work for the BBC Radio 2 & 3 2006/7 Jazz Awards which featured Quincy Jones and Dave Brubeck respectively. She painted a portrait of Quincy Jones which he bought and now hangs in his LA home. Signed Limited Edition prints are available of work she produced for these shows together with a selection of some of her other paintings.
